Worthing lady takes on 13 mile midnight walk for 6th year running, in aid of St Barnabas House, who cared for her father

Lisa Bant, 45, from Worthing, works at Eurotherm. She has taken part in the St Barnabas House Night to Remember for the last five years and was the first to sign up for the 13.1 mile route for this year’s event, taking place on Saturday 25 June 2016. Lisa said: “The Night to Remember is always such a fun evening, and there is a great atmosphere along the 13.1 mile route. The marshals at the checkpoints are so friendly and encouraging, cars beep, and night-revellers out on a Saturday night in Worthing cheer us as we make our way along the promenade.

“I have always been really happy to offer my support to St Barnabas House. Then in November 2014, my Dad, Barry, was sadly diagnosed with Mesothelioma and given six months life expectancy. Despite his participation in asbestos cancer treatment trials at St Barts’ Hospital, London, he sadly passed away last September at St Barnabas House, aged 72. I got to experience first-hand the truly compassionate care that the hospice provides. My Dad received care through the community nurses and specialist doctors at home, and then spent his last weekend in the hospice, and they couldn’t have done more for him and us.

St Barnabas House is now a cause intrinsically connected to my heart. I am aware that many of the ladies taking part have different reasons for walking; from fitness goals, to supporting friends and remembering their own loved ones. Ultimately we are all walking with the common goal to raise vital funds for the charity’s Hospice at Home night service, to help St Barnabas House reach everyone who needs hospice care.”

Lisa hopes her story will encourage more local ladies to sign up for the event before registration closes on Saturday 11 June. Visit our Night to Remember website www.nighttoremember.org.uk/stb.

Eurotherm, part of Schneider-Electric, has supported St Barnabas House as one of their Charities’ of the Year for the last four years. Over the last two years alone, the firm has raised a total of £10,000 for the hospice. Lisa added: “In the last two years, I have personally raised over £2,500 thanks to Eurotherm’s generous match-funding scheme.”

If you want to take part in Night to Remember, you can choose between the 7, 13.1 (half marathon) mile routes along Worthing’s streets and seafront, or the 20 mile route through Worthing to Shoreham and back.
