Work buddies get ready to take on 20 mile route for our Night to Remember

Rachael Shipham, 29, from Littlehampton, has registered as a team for our Night to Remember midnight walk with two colleagues, Kelly Shrimpton, 28, from Yapton and Rebecca Shields, 24, from Rustington. Now good friends, the ladies met working at Sainsburys’ Bank in Chichester and Rustington. Rachael had always wanted to take part in the Night to Remember event. After discussing the idea with Kelly and Rebecca, Rachael signed them up as team on a whim earlier in the year and they have since been training for what will be a real challenge. Aptly named the “Bureau Buddies”, Rachael, Kelly and Rebecca will join fellow lady participants on the start line at midnight on Saturday 25 June to complete the 20 mile route from Worthing Leisure Centre to Shoreham and back.

The Night to Remember sponsored walking challenge will see women of all ages take on 7, 13.1 or 20 mile routes to raise vital funds for our Home night service. The aim of this event is to double the number of patients cared for each year, in a bid to reach everyone who needs hospice care. The Bureau Buddies are hoping to raise £1,000 between them. So far they have raised £296 both on and offline. If you would like to help them reach their target, please visit www.justgiving.com/bureau-buddies.

The trio met at work 8 months ago and have become friends through training courses and supporting each other in their work. Rachael said: “The Night to Remember is something I have wanted to do for a long time but haven’t yet managed it. I mentioned it to some colleagues at work and the next thing I know, we have booked to take part. We really want to raise money to help those needing care for life-limiting illnesses, and to raise awareness for such an amazing charity.

Since signing up we have been doing a lot of walking to get prepared. I have found it hard to fit in the walking around my full-time hours, but it’s all been part of the challenge. Together we have walked over 113 miles in training, individually and as a team, and taken on hail and sleet, as well as some lovely tea breaks. In addition, Rebecca has cycled over 10 miles as well. We are hoping for some fair weather on the night of the walk, and really looking forward to achieving this personal challenge and being part of this amazing event. I hope that any local ladies reading this will be encouraged to take part with some friends and support this wonderful cause.”

If you want to take part in Night to Remember, you can choose between the 7, 13.1 (half marathon) or 20 mile routes.

Registration closes Monday 13 June. Visit our Night to Remember website to find out more and to register online – www.nighttoremember.org.uk/stb.
